Nordhouse Dunes: June 25, 26.27 This trip is a perfect introduction to backpacking. You will learn the amazing health benefits awaiting you in the backcountry, as well as other life skills like team building, group dynamics and leadership. Nordhouse is located between Manistee and Ludington along the shores of Lake Michigan. If you are looking for a new challenge in your life, or if you are a seasoned backpacker, this is the perfect way to start the season. The only equipment you will need is a sleeping bag. Isle Royale, August 6-11 This gem is located in Lake Superior, off the shores of the Upper Peninsula. It is the least visited of all the National Parks. Known for its abundance of wildflowers, as well as its fox, wolves, and moose, Isle Royale offers a backpacking experience like no other in the midwest.
Our trip begins in Houghton, Michigan, on the western side of the Upper Penninsula. We will take the 6 hour ferry ride to the island. Upon arrival,
we will begin our hike on the Rock Island Trail. going along the shore of Lake Superior. Our hike gives us a great taste of the island from the Shoreline to inner trails which lead to some of the islands many lakes. We will hike, sleep, and eat on the trails for 3 days and nights, On Tuesday, the 5th day, we will return to Rock Harbor where we will enjoy dinner at the Rock Harbor Lodge. The option of checking into the lodge for the night is available for added cost. We will then slowly return to reality on the return ferry on Wednesday. (More information under cost)
